CX Waaslandcross Women – Preview – Ciclismo Internacional

By @EchelonsHub

The Course

In for the final weekend of the season and it will not be an easy one as the weather has been quite bad and the tracks for the weekend are expected to be quite brutal to deal with it. Tomorrow at the Waaslandcross that is what’s expected, despite being a relatively flat track, it’s grassy terrain will make for a very heavy and sluggish race which should feature quite some mud sections due to the rain, which the riders may avoid but the track hasn’t.

Being raced around a small lake it isn’t a too complicated track with only some banks making for the gradients in the race, it is one marked with technical features however with some running sections, stairs and a long sand section towards the end of the track. It’s a race where technique will be very important and despite being quite flat I don’t believe slipstreaming will be essencial, mostly it will be making as little mistakes as possible and having a great start that will make for the grand part of the results.

The Favourites

A nice startlist we have despite it being so late in the season. With Denise Betsema making a comeback last week to take the win in Brussels. Although being quite different tracks, there will be similarities in that technique will be absolutely crucial here and it would seem as if the Pauwels Sauzen rider has gotten it perfect last week. If she can ride the same pace she can definitely take on Lucinda Brand again tomorrow, who starts virtually every race as the main favourite and tomorrow should be no exception.

Behind a fight for the podium is expected, between the candidates are Annemarie Worst who’s algo got some good form, Sanne Cant who should quite like the technical aspects of the track, Manon Bakker who has finished on the podium in Brussels in what was perhaps her best performance of the season and some more young guns.

Marion Norbert Riberolle finished 4th in Brussels also making for a brilliant race, alongside Aniek van Alphen and Zoe Backstedt they should be in the fight for the Top5 aswell, or more if they get everything dialed in perfectly.

Prediction Time

1st– Lucinda Brand

2nd– Denise Betsema

3rd– Manon Bakker

4th– Zoe Backstedt

5th– Sanne Cant
